LAPD on Immigrants' Rights
Los Angeles Police Department and ICE
Los Angeles Deputy Chief, Emada Tingirides speaks about LAPD’s role in relation federal immigration and enforcement.
Transcript:
“We are caught in the middle. While we don’t participate in federal immigration, there are times when a radio call comes out, and whether it be a kidnapping radio call or federal immigration requesting help from the LAPD for public safety reasons, LAPD does respond. And I can understand how that may look to the broader community, having LAPD in the same space as federal immigration, but our primary mission and sole responsibility is to keep the peace so that you are safe. And we want to build that trust and that relationship and that understanding of what our role is in this immigration enforcement realm that we are in right now in our city.
And with that, I’m going to have Chief Hurtado talk a bit about the FAQ that the Los Angeles Police Department has put out in English and Spanish to talk about our stance and our efforts to keep all Angelenos safe.”
