Mayoral Town Hall: Immigrants' Rights
Mayor Karen Bass to Discuss Immigrants's Rights at Virtual Town Hall
Amid sharp criticism and what activists call continued failed efforts to meet with them, Mayor Karen Bass, is holding a virtual town hall on Monday, November 3rd, 2025 at 5:30 PM.
On October 20th, Mayor Bass alongside Congressman Robert Garcia and immigrant rights leaders held a news conference demanding accountability for the “unlawful detention” of people following recent federal immigration raids in Los Angeles. Bass said, more than 250 workers have been detained since the raids began this summer, primarily targeting local car washes. She said, “170 U.S. citizens have been detained across the country.”
Last week, the LA county Board of Supervisors declared a state of emergency due to the fear and business shutdowns caused by the operations.
California Democratic leaders are seeking records from the federal government related to these ongoing federal raids.
Activists are outraged and are demanding answers over how the city and LAPD have handled community members who have been protesting in Los Angeles. Catie Laffoon, who has been present at dozens of protests in Los Angeles, wrote on her social media account, “Activists cleared MacArthur Park. Community members document and stand up to ICE. Bass shows up and takes credit for the work done independently of her office - work done in spite of policies in place with LAPD who make it more dangerous for us to do so.”
During this hour Zoom session, Mayor Bass and other City and community leaders will provide you with the latest facts, share important updates, and most importantly, take the time to answer your questions.
